Michael Saltsman argues that increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour is a “job killer” (“’The fight for $15’ is a job killer,” Columns, May 2). The cost of this raise, he maintains, will accelerate the employers’ purchase of technology that will eliminate jobs.
I have three issues with his position. First, when have employers ever chosen not to make their businesses more efficient and profitable by eliminating jobs? Sooner or later – if the technology is available to replace workers – their jobs will be cut. For me, this argument is a moot point.
